Movie Reviews 11/17
Hey guys.
There is a loaded slate of movie releases this weekend so I'll be doing two tonight and the other two Saturday night so be sure to check that post out as well.
The Edge Of Seventeen is a story about Nadine, Hailee Steinfeld, and her awkward junior year of high school only made more difficult when her brother played spectacularly by Blake Jenner begins dating her best friend she has had for years. Her mom, star Kyra Sedgwick, she believes just doesn't understand like most high schoolers think of their parents and Nadine seeks out the advice of her history teacher played by Woody Harrelson, and their interactions are some of my favorite parts of the movie. The story and directing style of this movie are very intriguing and I have to say this may be one of the best ensemble cast acting movies of the year. Has the emotion and humor throughout that lead to this movie not really having a low moment. Probably not a movie that will win a lot of awards but still a very solid film.Movie is rated R mainly for the langauge throughout and some sexual content. 8/10
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is now technically the 9th film in the Potterverse, even though the movie takes place 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter films. I have never been much of a "Potterhead" as the diehard fans of the series call themselves but I have to say this was a very interesting and fun movie going experience. The movie stars Eddie Redmayne who, in another incredibly strong performance, portrays the character of Newt Scamander. Newt is kind of what we would call a zoologist of sorts as he tracks down mystical beasts from all over the world. The story for the movie is good however knowing there are to be more movies in the series there are a lot of storylines started throughout the film with no conclusion. There is enough humor throughout the film but honestly never felt enough of a connection to the characters to have any real emotional response. I do believe that the fans of the Potter cinematic universe will enjoy this movie as long as they understand it is a very different film but I'm not really sure if it will reach outside of that core audience well. 7/10 for me but it's one of those genre films I could see some people giving a 10 and others giving a 5.
Anyways, that's all for me tonight. Let me know what you think and let me know after you see the movies if you agree or disagree and I'll have another post on Saturday.
