Movie Reviews July-October

Hey guys.
Haven't been on in a while as I have been transitioning jobs, but I'm back again with the latest movie reviews for you all. Some of these movies are still in theaters, but there are a few that are already available to rent or buy and watch in home. Sorry for the delay and I promise to get back on track with you guys to keep you in the loop on which movies to spend the money on and which to stay away from.

The Accountant, still in theaters, is the story of a math savant, played brilliantly by Ben Affleck, who poses as a small town CPA that is actually a freelance accountant for multiple criminal organizations. The treasury department's crime enforcement division led by J. K. Simmons begins closing in as Affleck takes on a legitimate client; a state-of-the-art robotics company led by Jeffrey Tambor whose accounting clerk, Anna Kendrick, finds a discrepancy in the books. Great acting by all involved and a surprisingly good story with twists that you may not see coming. Definitely recommend the movie, but it may not be for everyone as it is a little slow at times and has parts that are a little hard to follow. 8/10

Deepwater Horizon, coming to blu-ray 1/10/17, is the true story of the BP oil spill from 2010 which was one of the worst man-made disasters of all time. The movie, greatly directed by Peter Berg from Lone Survivor, is very intense and makes you feel like you were there with these brave individuals as they went through this horrible event and shows what true heroism is about. Mark Wahlberg, also in Lone Survivor, shines as the lead character again in this film. 8/5/10

Queen of Katwe is the true story of a young girl from Uganda whose world changes drastically when she is introduced to the game of chess. David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong'o star along side newcomer Madina Nalwanga and beautifully tell the story of how the support from Nalwanga's family and community allows her to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion. Great directing, story, and acting carry this incredible story and is another sleeper hit for Disney. 8.5/10

Storks, coming to blu-ray 12/20, is a story about, well, storks. What is different about the storks in this movie is that they have given up delivering babies and now deliver packages like UPS or FEDEX. Pretty good family movie that kids will definitely enjoy and has enough humor for adults as well as an emotional point to the film that may get you a bit misty eyed. Not a movie I would recommend to an adult without kids like a Disney/Pixar animated film but great for the entire family to watch. 6.5/10

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children is a Tim Burton directed film that looks exactly like you would expect a Tim Burton film to look. The story follows a boy named Jake, Asa Butterfield, who discovers clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and times and eventually leads him to the home of Miss Peregrine, played by Eva Green. Once there the mystery and danger become more intense as he gets to know the kids there and each of their special "powers". Villain played by Samuel L Jackson in a very Samuel L Jacksonesque role. Visuals are extraordinary but the story disappoints and fans of the books may not enjoy this movie. 6/10

Magnificent Seven is the remake of a remake about a group of antiheroes in the wild west that come together to save a small town from a ruthless man looking to take their land for his own profit. A story that has been used over and over again in many different time periods and many different ways but is somehow refreshed by Antoine Fuqua, director of Training Day and The Equalizer. The ensemble cast works very well together even though some of the intros and stories were shortened to give more time to the impressive action that is the entire final act of the movie. Great new take on a western that should impress fans of the old fashioned films and the new age crowd that may have never seen a western before in their life. 7.5/10

Sully is a movie based on Sully Sullenberger, the heroic pilot from the "Miracle on the Hudson", which not only focuses on the emergency landing of his plane saving the lives of passengers on board, but also shows behind-the-scenes of the time following the event. Tom Hanks, the man that can do little wrong, has another stellar performance of an actual true individual following Captain Phillips, Bridge of Spies, and Saving Mr. Banks. Laura Linney, who plays Hanks' wife, and Aaron Eckhart, who plays his copilot, also give outstanding performances in another successful directing effort by Clint Eastwood. 7.5/10

Masterminds is the true story of David Ghantt, played by Zach Galifianakis, who robs from the armored car company that he works for based on a plan by an ex-coworker and her friends. The directing and story of this movie are the certain downfalls of this movie. You can tell that the actors are doing their best to try and make the best of their time on this but that is not a good thing for any movie. I can not recommend this movie to any person as it may be the worst movie of the year. 3/10

Thank you for your patience and I promise to make it up to you guys and get back on track with movie reviews and other recommendations.
