Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle Review

In 2014, one of my most surprising films was Kingsman: The Secret Service, which of course would lead you to believe when the sequel "The Golden Circle comes along that another great film would be coming. Sadly that is not the case in this scenario as while I enjoyed the second Kingsman film, it is certainly a step down from the first. In Kingsman 2, our heroes face a new challenge when their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage. Their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman and they band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy.

Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, and "kinda" Colin Firth return from the original cast and welcome newcomers Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Jeff Daniels, Pedro Pascal, and a funny showing up of Elton John. While the cast is absolutely incredible and the action takes that of the first film to a whole new level, which is what a sequel should do, there just isn't the same creativity and the story is basically like an episodic television sitcom where the same thing happens as the last episode.

The original movie was said to be an "R-rated" Bond-esque film and that is what most people, including myself, enjoyed most about it. This sequel however really brings nothing new to the table and while, if you enjoyed the first movie you will certainly enjoy this one, there just isn't enough new to it that I can recommend people going to the theater to see this. The villain is just another generic character which seems more like an Austin Powers villain than a Bond one.

Again, you can definitely wait to see this one at home and will get the same enjoyment out of it that you would at the theater, but if you enjoyed the first then this one is worth checking out.

5.5/10
