November Movie Reviews Part 1
Hey guys.
November to the end of the year is when the Oscar level movies start to flood the theaters, also Star Wars in December, and usually give us a look at what are to be the best movies and performances of the year will be. These first movies have two included that could easily be up for many Oscar nominations including Best Picture, so take a look and let me know which ones you will be seeing:
Hacksaw Ridge is a true story about Desmond Doss who, during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. Director Mel Gibson has done it again with an incredible movie from start to finish. A true story that needed to be told because not enough people have heard about it. More humor than you would think possible in this kind of movie and puts a feeling in you that makes you want to do something incredible. This is a must see for any American individual. Also has a very strong message in sticking to your faiths and beliefs no matter the opposition. Definitely not for anyone under the age of 16 or 17 as it is a true to life war film in parts that can be very hard to see. 9/10
Dr Strange- Solid Marvel movie that is unlike anything else you have ever seen in a theater. Some of the best visuals and effects ever on a screen. Movie itself was another Marvel origin story which has an okay plot with another semi-generic villain only made well due to the performance of Mads Mikelson. Benedict Cumberbatch is perfecting casting and the supporting cast puts out great performances. If you are a Marvel movie fan then this is another notch in the belt for them. 2 post credit scenes with one connecting the movie to the MCU and the other moving the Dr Strange story forward. If you get motion sickness you may have to be careful with this otherwise see it in IMAX 3D. 7.5/10
Trolls starring a very talented voice cast led by Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick is a good animated movie for the kids to enjoy with music that fits really well in the story as it is used. The voice cast fit nicely together and with their characters and the story was better than I expected. Cool use of the animation in the different things the trolls could do and the world around them. Worth seeing in theaters and 3D. 7/10
Arrival is a story that is very hard to explain exactly what happens but wow what a movie. Mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe causing the government to assemble a team led by Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner to figure out exactly why the beings have come to Earth. This film is magnificently shot, directed, written, and acted. Deep story that is what some would call a slow burn with a payoff ending that makes it all worth it. Not a heavy action alien invasion type movie so don't expect that but an almost perfect movie that I would recommend to anyone that doesn't mind a movie that will have you completely confused throughout with a brilliant conclusion. Definitely a theater movie to make sure you don't get interrupted by anything else. 9.5/10
Almost Christmas is a story starring Danny Glover as a father spending his first Christmas without his wife trying to bring his family together. Great ensemble cast movie with really good chemistry from the family members and great laughs from Monique and JB Smoove. It is definitely a by-the-numbers story with the emotional moments you can expect but great humor as well to counteract that. Probably not a theater movie but definitely one to check out when it comes to home via blu-ray or streaming. 6/10
Another really good crop of movies as we get further into the Oscar movie season of November and December. Movies to look forward to the rest of November are Loving, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, The Edge of Seventeen, Bad Santa 2, Rules Don't Apply, Moana, and Allied. Looking forward to bringing the reviews to these movies to you guys very soon.
