Hidden Figures Review

Hidden Figures is an incredible true story that I, and many others, had never even heard of. The movie focuses on the lives of three amazing women, Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe). These brilliant African-American women worked at NASA in the 1960's serving as the brains, or "computers" as they are referred as in the movie, behind one of the greatest missions in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

I have been wanting to see this movie since it was released wide on 1/6/17 and was finally able to this past weekend and it was well worth the wait. This story is one that should be known by everyone alive and I can't believe it took this long for a movie of its kind to be made. The performances alone of not only the three lead stars but that of Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Mahershala Ali, and Jim Parsons are worth the price of the ticket to see this film. Henson, Spencer, and Monáe though clearly steal this film, as they should, but I honestly believe that Janelle Monáe is the stand out actress which is saying a lot as both Spencer and Henson are the more seasoned actresses.

Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson are true trailblazers whose fight and struggle across all gender and race lines should inspire generations of all people to dream big and not let anything or anyone stand in between you and achieving your highest possible outcome of your life.

I believe that Hidden Figures is a film that should be shown to students in History classes all across the nation and will score it an 8/10.
