mother! Movie Review

A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Haris, and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion, and sacrifice.

Darren Aronofsky has been known to write and direct some of these crazy, artistic films that not any other person but him could pull off. While this one is not on the same level as "Black Swan" and "Requiem for a Dream" it is clearly an Aronofsky film and is basically an entire metaphor for the world that we live in. The performances by the entire cast is outstanding but specifically the acting of Jennifer Lawrence throughout the film shows again why she is one of the best actresses working today.

I don't want to go much into what the movie is about, or at least my interpretation of it, because it would be full of spoilers but I will say that after seeing this movie you will see the world in a new light from one man's point of view on the environment, politics, and religion as well. One thing I will say that is a downfall of the film is that this should have been done in the short film format of a max of 30-45 minutes and the fact that it was extended out to a 2 hour film detracts from the intensity of the film by repeating some of the same issues a few to many times.

The movie definitely won't be for everyone and I don't recommend seeing it in the theater as it isn't really necessary to see this on the big screen but one that I think people should give a chance to.

6.5/10
