La La Land Review

I honestly don't believe that a perfect movie actually exists but I have to say that La La Land is one of the closest movies to perfection that I have seen in a very long time. I will say upfront that this is a musical, but the way the music is blended into this film is incredible and will have you wanting to buy the soundtrack as well.
The film is written and directed by Damien Chazelle, who is responsible for bringing us the Oscar nominated Whiplash, and has followed it up with a film that may just take home the Best Picture award this year. La La Land tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts, Los Angeles.
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have starred together in two movies before and you can tell with the excellent chemistry they have together. The film is beautifully shot and well written with scenes that will make you laugh, make you tap your feet, and a last 20 minutes that will have you almost speechless. Award considerations for this film will be going to the Best Picture category, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Soundtrack, Best Actress, and Best Actor with definite nominations and possible wins in multiple categories.
Again I will say this film is a musical with some big musical numbers and dance breaks so it may not work for everyone but it definitely did for me and this will be one of the few perfect scores I have given out this year. 10/10
