John Wick: Chapter 2 Review
Keanu Reeves was born to play two characters: Ted Theodore Logan of Bill and Ted and John Wick. The first film was a surprise hit in 2014 as there was no promotional material up until about 2 months before the movie came out. Having a movie be as good as or better than the first in a franchise is a very difficult task in Hollywood and I am happy to say that this film is one of those that accomplishes the task. In Chapter 2, John Wick is forced out of retirement again by a former associate plotting to seize control of an international assassin's guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers.
If you enjoyed the first John Wick movie with its frenetic action paces and the stories behind the Continental hotel then you will absolutely love this film as it doubles down on both the non-stop thrillingly choreographed action as well as getting more in depth in the lore of the assassin community. There is definitely more of a story behind this second film which is one of the main reasons this take is 30 minutes longer than the first but the action is easily double that of its predecessor. The movie honestly reminds of the great action films of the 80's with a great assassin's network that could open this franchise up even wider in the future. The movie doesn't really need to be as long as it is though as there are definite scenes that could have been cut without taking anything away from the story. However I can fully recommend John Wick: Chapter 2 to everyone over the age of 17, rated "R", looking for an incredible action movie that doesn't have anything to do with superheroes.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and hope they continue with a 3rd movie, although I don't know how they can keep upping the game. 8/10
