Lego Batman Review

There are big changes brewing in Gotham, but if Batman (Will Arnett) wants to save the city from the Joker's (Zach Galifianakis) hostile takeover,  he may have to drop the lone vigilante thing and try to work with others. Maybe his butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes), sidekick Robin (Michael Cera), and Barbara Gordon (Rosario Dawson) can show him a thing or two about becoming a family.

Is it sad to say that a Lego Batman movie is the best Batman film since The Dark Knight? Because that is honestly what I believe to be the truth. Director Adam McKay has given us, maybe not the Batman movie we want, but definitely the Batman movie we need (Dark Knight pun) in this day and age. The writers, I must say, know Batman in a way I don't believe any other Batman movie writer truly understand. Of course they do have the freedom of being a Lego film which means they have the ability to use any and all characters from the Warner Bros movies in Lego form and they take full advantage of that bringing in beloved characters from at least 8 different movie franchises. The jokes about the history of Batman throughout this movie start from the opening titles and don't end until after the credits roll. Some of these jokes people who are not die-hard fans of Batman may miss but there is still plenty of other humor, and as I said a lot of other characters that will hit with different film fans in different ways, to make this movie thoroughly enjoyable for everyone.

I very much enjoyed this movie and could see it sticking around to be in the Oscar race for Best Animated Film, as long as the Academy doesn't overlook them as they did The Lego Movie. Score 9/10.
