The Great Wall Review
The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world's most iconic structure. The first English-language production for director Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers) is the largest film ever shot entirely in China and I will say the visuals throughout this film are really the best parts. The movie stars Matt Damon, Tian Jing, and Pedro Pascal who give admirable performances with the story and script they were given not being the strongest.
Honestly the movie is not one of the greatest pieces of cinema and the visuals aren't the best you will ever see but seeing this film in IMAX was an incredible view of the Great Wall and the wonders of China that you don't get to see very often in a film directed by an actual Chinese director with the skill level of Yimou. I do like the strong cast of Chinese actors including Tian Jing as an incredibly strong Chinese female actress. While the film is not great and won't make anyone's lists of the top 10 films of the year it was enjoyable enough in parts and the visuals were good enough to see in theaters if you want to go and see something and have already seen Lego Batman and John Wick 2.
Score 5.5/10
