Movies To Watch 2017 Pt 3 of 6

Summer time is coming, and with it comes "Blockbuster Season". Every year the biggest films come out between May and August and bring in many of the most anticipated films of the year. In this post I will be covering the months of May-June and showing what the biggest movies each weekend ahead are as well as highlighting the movies I have my eye on more than the others.

May Films 2017

5/5/17
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Volume II - The one and really only wide release movie this weekend has been one of my most anticipated films since I saw the original 10 times in the theater. The sequel brings back writer/director James Gunn as well as the entire main cast lead by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista with the vocal works of both Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. The film already has highly rated reviews and I can't wait to check it out.

5/12/17
  • King Arthur: Legend of the Sword - Guy Ritchie, director of movies such as Snatch and the new Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes' movies, brings his distinct style to the tale of King Arthur. Charlie Hunham, of Sons of Anarchy fame, stars as the title character whose father is killed when he is a young boy. His uncle, played by Jude Law, takes the crown and casts out Arthur who, robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city until drawing the sword from the stone and changing his entire life. I have already seen an early screening of the film and found it enjoyable with the low expectations I had for it and do believe that the good outweighs the bad throughout.
  • Snatched - Amy Schumer plays Emily, who after getting dumped by her boyfriend on the eve of their exotic vacation decides to bring along her mother Linda, played by Goldie Hawn. On their trip they are taken hostage and have to work together, even though they are polar opposites, to find a way to get themselves free. While I enjoyed Amy Schumer in the film Trainwreck I have a feeling that she might get into a Melissa Mccarthy type where she is playing the same type of character in multiple films.

5/19/17
  • Alien: Covenant - Ridley Scott returns to the Alien universe that he created with this new chapter of the franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark and dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape. This may just be my most anticipated film of the entire month after seeing the incredible trailers. This is a prequel to the original Alien film and a direct sequel to Prometheus that came out back in 2012.
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul - Based on the record-breaking book series of the same name, a family road trip goes hilariously off course thanks to Greg's newest scheme to finally become famous. While I was a fan of the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, this "sequel" has an entirely new cast and the trailer hasn't looked as good as the original, but let the kids see this while you go and see Alien: Covenant.

5/26/17
  • Baywatch - Yes, they seriously have made a movie based on the old TV show. The good news is that the film has cast Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron as the two leads who have great comedic timing. While the trailers haven't really impressed me as much as I would have liked, I'm still hopeful that the best moments are yet to be seen. If not, you can still go and enjoy the movie for the same reason guys grew up watching the original TV show as they have cast another group of amazingly beautiful women.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - Johnny Depp returns for the 5th film in the Pirates' franchise and looks as though the films may finally live up to how great the 1st movie started the series. The adventure finds a down on his luck Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune his way when deadly ghost sailors led by Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) escape from the Devil's Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea, especially Sparrow. Jack's only hope of survival is the Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina (Kaya Scodelario) and Henry (Brenton Thwaites). The film also shows the possible returns of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Turner (Keira Knightley). I hate to get my hopes up for a movie in this franchise after how bad 3 and 4 have been but I believe this may just be the one to "right the ship".

June Films 2017

6/2/17
  • Wonder Woman - Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that is raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny. This is probably my 1st or 2nd most anticipated film on this list. DC has not been great on their last 2 movie attempts after a great Man of Steel so I am really hoping that this is the movie that turns everything around.
  • Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie - Two overly imaginative pranksters (voices of Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch) hypnotize their principal (voiced by Ed Helms) into thinking that he's a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants. This could be a cute and funny kid's movie that might get a few laughs out of the adults from what I've seen in the trailer.
6/9/17
  • The Mummy - Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess, whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension. The movie, starring Sofia Boutella as the Mummy, Tom Cruise, and Russell Crowe as Dr Jekyll, is to be the start of a new reboot of the Universal Monster movies from the past. I'm curious to not only see how good this individual film is but also how it sets up the entire universe they are trying to make.
  • It Comes at Night - Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order Paul (Joel Edgerton) has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge. Despite the best intentions of both families, paranoia and mistrust boil over as the horrors outside creep ever-closer, awakening something hidden and monstrous within Paul as he learns that the protection of his family comes at a cost. I had never even heard of this movie until I saw the trailer on Facebook and now I'm excited to see if the movie can live up to that.
6/16/17
  • All Eyez On Me - The movie tells the true and untold story of prolific rapper, actor, poet, and activist Tupac Shakur. The film follows Shakur from his early days in New York City to his evolution into being one of the world's most recognized and influential voices before his untimely death at the age of 25. I'm curious to see just how "true" the story really is and if this is going to live up to the legend of Tupac.
  • Cars 3 - Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers led by Jackson Storm (voiced by Armie Hammer), the legendary Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician (voiced by Cristela Alonzo) with her own plan to win. The Cars' series to me is one of the weaker Pixar franchises but maybe this will be the one film that puts it a little higher on the list.
  • Rough Night - Five best friends (Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Kravitz, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, and Ilana Glazer) from college reunite 10 years later for a wild bachelorette weekend in Miami. Their hard partying takes a hilariously dark turn when they accidentally kill a male stripper. Amidst the craziness of trying to cover it up, they're ultimately brought closer together when it matters most. Please be funny.
6/23/17
  • Transformers: The Last Knight - Humans are at war with the Transformers, and Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving the future lies buried in the secrets of the past and the hidden history of the Transformers on Earth. Now, it's up to the unlikely alliance of Cade (Mark Wahlberg), Bumblebee, an English lord (Anthony Hopkins), and an Oxford professor (Laura Haddock) to save the world. I don't know how this movie can be any worse than the previous one but I'm not getting my hopes up on any Transformers' movie that Michael Bay is attached to direct again.

6/28/17
  • Baby Driver - Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman of his dreams (Lily James), he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love, and freedom. Hadn't heard of this movie until a few weeks ago when I saw the first trailer and now it is probably my most anticipated movie of the entire summer.

6/30/17
  • Despicable Me 3 - Gru (Steve Carell) and his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) with help from his brother must stop former '80s child star Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) from achieving world domination. While I wasn't a fan of the Minion movie, the Despicable Me franchise has always been a hit to me so I am looking forward to the next one.
  • The House - After losing their college fund, Scott (Will Ferrell) and Kate (Amy Poehler) must figure out a way to earn some cash so their daughter can go to school. With help from their neighbor, the couple start an underground casino in the basement of their home. As the money rolls in, Scott and Kate soon learn they may have bitten off more than they can chew. Doesn't look all that great from the trailers but love both Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler so hopefully the movie is better than it seems.

While there are other movies coming out during this time, these are what I believe to be the most anticipated films by me and others around. While some may not be as good as I hope for them to be you can continue to watch my page for the reviews of each of the movies in this list. Check out some of the trailers for these movies and hopefully you can find one that you may not have heard of without the list.
