Alien: Covenant Review
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created with a new chapter in the groundbreaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape. The film stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, and Dannie McBride.
The movie is a sequel to Prometheus and a prequel to the original Alien film. While the film will fix most people's issues with Prometheus being so far removed from the original Alien movie, it still does not make a movie on the same level. While the movie is enjoyable there is still so much missing from making this an exceptional movie like Alien and Aliens did some 40 years ago. I will say if you enjoyed Prometheus then you will like this movie as I would say it is more of a sequel to that film than the prequel to Alien.
There is more story to this movie than the action most people go into the film looking for and the action scenes are pretty standard for this type of movie. The ending is also predictable as well and of course leaves the door open for the sequels previously announced by Ridley Scott. While I enjoy the movie and some of the main characters, at a certain point it feels like all you are doing is trying to figure out who's dying next and how, without really caring much about the story behind everything.
The movie, like every Scott film, is absolutely stunningly shot and is a great movie to see in theaters and that's how I would recommend seeing it as I don't know if it is a film that will stand the test of time on visuals alone.
6.5/10
