Despicable Me 3 Review
Despicable Me 3 continues the adventures of Gru, Lucy, Margo, Edith, Agnes, and the Minions. The movie also introduces Gru's long-lost twin brother Dru and new villain Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker), a former child star who's grown up to become obsessed with the character he played in the '80s, and proves to be Gru's most formidable nemesis to date.
I really enjoyed the first 2 films in the Despicable Me franchise but wasn't a fan of the standalone Minion movie even though I was a huge fan of the Minions as a side character and they return to that prominence in this movie. They, along with a few other moments, give the movie enough laughs to make this an enjoyable enough film to earn a slight recommendation. It is definitely a perfectly reasonable option for a family movie outing and has just enough of a story to make it where the parents won't necessarily get bored.
The main problem with the movie is they try to put in way to many different story lines that it gets a little jumbled at time. The villain is great and even though it seems like he would get a little annoying from the trailers, the way he is used throughout the film is done in a way he never gets to be to much. Besides the villain and the Minions, which were my two favorite parts of the movie, I also enjoyed the Lucy character throughout in the way she was trying to come in as a "step-parent" and trying to fit in to the family. I really appreciated the way this storyline worked its way through the entirety of the movie.
This is a movie I can recommend spending the money to see in the theater with the family and maybe parents with kids will even get more out of this as long as they temper their expectations knowing this isn't on the same level as 1 and 2.
6.5/10
