It Movie Review

It, directed by Andy Muschietti ("Mama"), is based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same name, which has been terrifying readers for decades. When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

Ever since the first trailers began to come out for this movie I have been looking forward to it as I was a big fan of the original version from 27 years ago and this did not disappoint. Bill Skarsgard does an excellent job as Pennywise and the "losers club" kids are exceptional not only in the horror parts of the movie but also in their humor and chemistry together. The writing and directing make this movie one that transcends the horror genre. The kids are easily the best part of the film and will keep you wanting more of them together.

While the movie does more than normal horror tropes it isn't exactly the scariest movie and has the predictability of a lot of horror movies past. The movie also runs about 15-20 minutes long with some repeating of the same scares a little to many times. Like I said in the beginning, I absolutely enjoyed the movie and was surprised at how many laughs I got out of it and the enjoyment of the group of kids more than make up for the lack of scares throughout.

The movie is rated "R" and definitely earns the rating so make sure that you know that going in. There is quite a bit of language and some gore throughout so definitely leave the kids at home but definitely recommend seeing this.

7.5/10
